There is strong evidence sugary drinks contribute to poor health. Universities in the United States, health services in Australia and New Zealand, and the World Health Organisation are phasing out the sale and promotion of sugary drinks at their sites.
We are a group of students, researchers and academics passionate about making the University of Sydney the first higher education institution in Australia to take this step. Five years ago we led the country by creating a smoke-free campus environment – now is the time for us to lead again. Help us demonstrate leadership for good at the University of Sydney.
Let's demonstrate leadership for good
We're asking the University of Sydney to commit to and endorse the following initiatives on campus in 2017:
Phase out the sale of sugary drinks from all on campus retail outlets and vending machines
Regulate the marketing and promotion of sugary drinks on campus, including at events run by student clubs and societies
Promote healthier beverage options through availability, pricing and product placement programs
Provide more water fountains on campus.
